Photography + Amelie= Color Bliss

On Tuesday my Color Photography class watched Amelie. I absolutely love that movie! It is quirky, sweet, eccentric, and has beautiful cinematography. The cinematography is so beautiful because of the movie's suburb use of color. It uses everyday color and takes it to the next level of saturation and vibrancy. Green, my favorite color, is one of those colors that the movie exploits. Think of underground subways, that dingy florescent light that reminds you of being sick, becomes a greener florescent color that is actually quite beautiful. Every color that surrounds Amelie is very saturated, but soft. In most movies music heightens the emotion of the scene, but in Amelie it is the color. Brighter, intenser colors make the moment so much more alive. The movie doesn't just rotate around color, but around Amelie and her discovery of love, and how much she can be an instrument in helping make others lives happier. It's such a universal and simple truth, that the more you serve the happier you will be. I love that. Service or any good deed that is done with love resonates and can never be turned down. I love the fact that in the midst of something so secular, there is still a spiritual connection. It never ceases to amaze me where knowledge can be found. I am so grateful for life and those little things that really give me so much joy! And changing themes...how can I recreate color like the movie? Maybe not quite to its extreme, but it's something I'll be posting more about and more pictures of...I have a few pictures of a photo shoot that I did at the end of last semester with my friend Maggie and her friend Brighton. They are gorgeous girls and there were some fun colors that they wore that I have played with in photoshop and am going to play around with some more, do some exploiting of color!
